JOHN REWIND
John Rewind was born in Kansas City, Missouri and started playing drums at 9, inspired by Cubby on the Mickey Mouse Club and Johnny Klein with Lawrence Welk. At 13 he switched to the guitar and learned all the Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Chuck Berry, and Freddy King songs that he could. In K.C. he was in numerous bands such as The Knights, The Emeralds, the Zoo, and the Afterlife Carnival Singers. After moving to California during the Summer of Love in 1967, he was the lead guitarist for Marble Farm until he met Joe Crane from Conroe,Texas in 1969. Joe had played bass for Johnny and Edgar Winter while in high school in Beaumont, Texas. John and Joe's mutual passion for the Blues and legendary R&B songs led them to form Joe Crane and His Hoodoo Rhythm Devils in the early '70's. With an old college friend Glenn Walters added on vocals and drums and Richard Greene (Dexter C. Plates) on bass, the name was shortened to the Hoodoo Rhythm Devils. With Roger Clark, and later Jerome Kimsey on drums, The Hoodoos went on to do many national tours in the early '70's with The Doobie Bros, Steely Dan, Savoy Brown, Bloodrock, Mott the Hoople, Graham Central Station, Tower Of Power, Malo, The Tubes, John Lee Hooker, Sylvester, and Chuck Berry. They backed up the Pointer Sisters on "Wang Dang Doodle" on the Pointer's first album.
